Tip Calculator

What is Tip Calculator?

Tip Calculator computes tip amounts and per-person totals for restaurant bills and service gratuities. It supports custom tip percentages, bill splitting among multiple people with equal or unequal shares, tax-before-tip versus tax-inclusive calculations, and rounding options for convenient cash payment. The tool shows common tip percentages (15%, 18%, 20%, 25%) side by side for quick comparison and handles discount adjustments to tip on the pre-discount amount.

Diners calculating restaurant tips, travelers adjusting to local tipping customs, and groups splitting shared bills. The tool runs entirely in your browser — your data never leaves your device.

How to Use Tip Calculator

1. Enter the bill total before or after tax
2. Select or enter your desired tip percentage
3. Set the number of people for bill splitting
4. View the tip amount, total per person, and grand total with convenient rounding options

Common Use Cases

• Calculating the tip and per-person split for a group restaurant dinner
• Comparing different tip percentages to see the impact on total cost
• Computing tips on the pre-tax amount for regions where tipping on tax is not customary
• Splitting bills unevenly when some diners ordered more expensive items

Pro Tips

• In the US, 20% is the standard for good restaurant service as of recent years — 15% is now considered below average; tipping norms vary significantly by country and culture, so adjust for your location
• Tip on the pre-tax amount, not the post-tax total — the tax goes to the government, not the server; on a $100 meal with 10% tax, a 20% tip should be $20 (on $100), not $22 (on $110)
• For large groups, many restaurants add an automatic 18-20% gratuity — check the bill for an existing service charge before adding a tip to avoid double-tipping
